Two Bears Tranquilized After Entering Residential Area in Tral

Pulwama, Oct 11: KNT: Two bears that entered an inhabited area of Khangund in south Kashmir’s Tral and climbed a tree near the Wildlife Range Office were tranquillized by the Wildlife Department on Sunday after their appearance triggered panic among locals.
The bears were spotted in the locality near the Range Office, drawing attention to the potential risk posed by their presence in an inhabited area. Wildlife personnel subsequently carried out an operation to bring the situation under control.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Khangund Range Officer Muhammad Younis, who confirmed to the news agency Kashmir News Trust that both bears had been tranquillized.
Their appearance in the locality prompted a response from the department to manage the situation and reduce the risk of a possible encounter with people. The incident once again highlights the challenges faced by wildlife officials when bears enter inhabited areas of south Kashmir. [KNT]
