Srinagar, May 6, KNT: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Waheed Ur Rehman Parra on Tuesday criticized the ruling National Conference (NC), alleging that the party was avoiding key public issues while attempting to shift political focus toward the PDP.

Speaking to reporters, Parra questioned the timing of action linked to Siraj-ul-Aloom and alleged that the National Conference had remained silent over the issue despite describing the institution as an important educational center.

He alleged that the NC government was failing to address concerns relating to closure of educational institutions, political detainees and attachment of properties in Jammu and Kashmir.

Parra also claimed that Urdu revenue records were being translated into English through an application developed outside Jammu and Kashmir, alleging that such steps could impact local identity and administrative traditions.

The PDP leader said the National Conference, despite having a strong mandate in the Assembly, had failed to take effective measures on issues concerning protection of local interests, employment and culture.

He further alleged that thousands of jobs were being outsourced and outside companies were increasingly being brought into Jammu and Kashmir.

Referring to recent political disagreements, Parra accused the National Conference of not honoring assurances allegedly given to the PDP regarding a land-related bill after the Rajya Sabha elections.

He also said the ruling party should focus on addressing “internal rebellion” within its own ranks instead of repeatedly targeting the PDP over past political alliances.

Parra maintained that whenever the PDP raises governance-related concerns, the National Conference attempts to divert the debate toward the PDP-BJP alliance rather than responding directly to public issues being highlighted by the opposition. [KNT]
