Tangmarg, May 7, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday hinted at a strong political response, saying he too wanted to “burst like a cloudburst” but was restraining himself as the occasion did not permit a political address.
Addressing a public function in the Tangmarg area of Baramulla district, Omar Abdullah said he remembered a political leader recently saying through the media that they will “bursting like a cloudburst,” and added that he too felt similarly.
“I also want to burst like a cloudburst,” Omar said, while adding that the event was a government function where children were present and therefore he did not want to turn it into a political lecture.
Without elaborating further, the chief minister indicated that he would speak more openly on political matters at an appropriate time.
After addressing the gathering, Omar Abdullah spoke to reporters and commented on the recent developments in West Bengal, saying what had happened there was “wrong.”
He said lakhs of voters had allegedly been deprived of their voting rights and questioned the timing of judicial intervention in the matter.
“The Supreme Court has said it will look into the issue, but what is the use now? Elections are already over and these people cannot vote now,” Omar said.
The chief minister further remarked that it remained to be seen what impact the developments in West Bengal could have on other states in the future. [KNT]
