Lucknow, June 3, KNT: Scores of Hajj pilgrims have alleged theft of valuables and disappearance of baggage upon their arrival at Lucknow Airport, triggering outrage among returning pilgrims who claimed their complaints were not receiving adequate attention from the concerned authorities.
The allegations surfaced as Hajj return operations continued, with affected pilgrims demanding an immediate inquiry into the reported losses.
According to the pilgrims, several checked-in bags either went missing or were received in damaged condition, with valuables allegedly stolen from inside the luggage.
One female pilgrim alleged that five silver rings, six perfume bottles, two gold nose pins, five hijabs and children’s toys were missing from her baggage after arrival.
Pilgrims claimed that despite repeatedly approaching airport authorities and concerned agencies, they were struggling to obtain a satisfactory response regarding the missing items.
“There was chaos and confusion, but nobody is listening and nobody is coming forward to properly investigate the matter,” one pilgrim alleged.
The complaints assume significance as pilgrims were not permitted to keep belongings with them during travel, making checked baggage their only option for transporting personal items and gifts brought from Saudi Arabia.
Affected passengers have sought intervention from authorities and demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged thefts and baggage handling practices at the airport. [KNT]
