10 Reported Dead as Passenger Bus Overturns on J&K’s Ramnagar–Udhampur Highway

Udhampur, April 20, KNT: At least ten people were killed and several others injured after a passenger bus overturned on the Ramnagar–Udhampur highway near Kaghote in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

The accident occurred along the hilly stretch of the highway, where the vehicle reportedly lost control and turned turtle, leading to casualties and injuries among passengers.

Police and local authorities rushed to the spot soon after the accident and launched a rescue operation to evacuate passengers trapped inside the vehicle.

The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, while efforts were made to clear the accident site and restore traffic movement.

Officials said further details regarding the cause of the accident and actual number of deaths are being ascertained.

The rescue operation was carried out with the assistance of locals, who joined authorities in pulling out victims from the overturned bus.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh expressed deep grief over the tragic bus accident in Ramnagar, Udhampur, and shared details about the ongoing rescue operations. In a post on X, he said he had spoken to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Udhampur and that the administration is fully alert.

Dr. Singh stated that he had just spoken with Udhampur DC Minga Sherpa to gather details about the tragic road accident near village Kanote. A public transport bus traveling from Ramnagar to Udhampur met with the accident. Rescue operations were initiated immediately.

He added that the number of casualties could be higher, and all possible assistance is being provided. The injured will be shifted for medical treatment, and arrangements are also being made to airlift critically injured persons. He said he is in constant touch with the local administration and a team of party workers led by Rajinder Sharma.

Traffic in the area has been affected following the accident, and police have diverted movement in nearby areas. [KNT]
