Rana Says Questions on Kulgam Attack Should Be Put to Home Ministry
Jammu, August 1, KNT: Criticizing the Centre over the security situation following the killing of two non-local workers in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet Minister Javed Rana on Saturday said that law and order is not under the jurisdiction of the Union Territory government and that questions over the apparent security lapse should be directed to the Union Home Ministry and the agencies responsible for maintaining security.
Expressing grief over the incident, Rana said it was deeply unfortunate that people who had come to Jammu and Kashmir to earn their livelihood and contribute to the region’s development had become victims of violence.
“It is very unfortunate that people who came here to earn their livelihood and contribute to Kashmir’s development were killed. We deeply regret the incident. However, law and order is not under the jurisdiction of the Jammu and Kashmir government. Questions regarding the security lapse should be directed to the Home Ministry and the authorities responsible for maintaining law and order, as they are better placed to answer,” he said.
Strongly condemning the attack, the minister described the killings as an act of barbarity.
“It is sheer barbarity. Killing an unarmed and innocent person is nothing less than the murder of humanity itself. It is a deeply tragic incident,” Rana said.
The attack, in which two non-local workers were killed, has drawn widespread condemnation from political parties and civil society, with renewed concerns being raised over the safety of civilians and migrant workers in the Valley. [KNT]
