7-Year-Old Student Killed in Landslide at School in Handwara

Handwara, August 1, KNT: A seven-year-old student was killed after being struck by a landslide inside the premises of a private school in the Mawer area of Handwara on Saturday, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Rehan Ahmad Dar, son of Reyaz Ahmad Dar, a resident of Khudi Mawer. He was a student of Front Line School, Mawer.

Officials told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the child came under a landslide that occurred within the school premises amid continuous heavy rainfall. He was immediately rushed to the New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC), Qalamabad, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the area, with grief gripping the family and local community.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated proceedings in accordance with law. [KNT]
