Kulgam Teacher Invited by President Droupadi Murmu to ‘At Home’ Reception on Independence Day

Kulgam, August 3, KNT: Waseem Ahmed Lone, a government school teacher from south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, has been invited by President Droupadi Murmu to attend the prestigious ‘At Home’ reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 15 as part of the Independence Day celebrations.

Lone is currently posted at Government Middle School Durhama in the DH Pora zone of Kulgam district. His invitation is being seen as recognition of his contribution to school education, particularly his efforts to improve enrolment, attendance, cleanliness, and the overall learning environment.

His colleagues said the teacher’s dedicated approach significantly transformed the school, where student enrolment reportedly increased from just 12 to around 125 during his tenure. The school also witnessed a marked improvement in student attendance, while several initiatives aimed at promoting cleanliness and quality education were introduced under his guidance.

Speaking on receiving the invitation, Lone while talking to the news agency Kashmir News Trust described it as a matter of immense pride and honour, not only for him but also for the Education Department and the teaching fraternity.

“Teachers are nation builders. We are expected to play the role of parents in shaping the future of our students. This recognition motivates me to continue serving society with greater dedication,” he said.

The invitation has been widely welcomed by colleagues and education officials, who described the recognition as a proud moment for the School Education Department and an inspiration for teachers across Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
