Two Punjab Men Arrested With Poppy Straw in Central Kashmir’s Budgam

Budgam, Aug 19, KNT: Two men from Punjab were arrested after police recovered 11.240 kilograms of a poppy straw-like substance from a truck during naka checking in the Narbal area of Budgam district, police said on Wednesday.

A police team from Police Post Narbal intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB06L-2575 near the Fisheries Department during checking. The vehicle was travelling from Magam towards Srinagar when it was stopped for inspection.

During a search of the truck, police recovered two nylon bags containing the suspected contraband concealed beneath a seat.

The two occupants of the vehicle were identified as Iqbal Masih, son of Kulla Masih, and Akshay Masih, son of Mohan Masih, both residents of Gurdaspur, Punjab. They were arrested following the recovery.

Police said the seized substance was weighed and sealed at the spot in the presence of independent civilian witnesses, while legal formalities under the NDPS Act were completed.

FIR No. 116/2026 under Section 8/15 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Magam and further investigation has been taken up. [KNT]
