Jammu, Sep 28, KNT: Indian Institute of Technology Jammu has launched a Social Media Influencer Programme under its ongoing Cyber Awareness-cum-Hygiene Campaign, with the initiative aimed at taking cyber-safety messages to a wider audience across Jammu and Kashmir.

The programme was launched by IIT Jammu Director Prof Manoj Singh Gaur along with the Institute Incubation and Innovation Council (I3C) team, including Dr Yogesh Nimdeo, Dr Lakhvinder Singh and Sheikh Inayat Ullah.

The second phase of the campaign will involve social media influencers, digital content creators and youth in disseminating information on cyber fraud prevention, cyber hygiene, online safety and responsible use of digital platforms, particularly among children, adolescents and young people.

The campaign is being implemented by I3C-IIT Jammu in collaboration with CyberPeace Foundation and Reform and Rehabilitation Foundation, with support from Google.org. It is being facilitated by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir with the support of divisional and district administrations.

The programme involves government departments, educational institutions, universities, colleges and schools, along with law-enforcement agencies and other stakeholders across the Union Territory. Nodal officers have been designated by participating departments and institutions for coordination and implementation.

Under the programme, applicants will undergo screening before selected participants receive orientation on cyber frauds, preventive measures, cyber hygiene, online safety, protection of personal information and emerging cyber threats.

The selected participants will then develop awareness content based on prescribed themes. The content will undergo technical review by I3C before being disseminated through the creators’ respective digital platforms.

The programme provides a cash prize of ₹50,000 for the top-performing participant based on prescribed evaluation criteria, besides formal recognition from I3C.

According to I3C-IIT Jammu, more than 25,000 people had been trained in cyber safety and hygiene and over 3.8 lakh people reached through cyber-awareness activities across Jammu and Kashmir as of September 2026.

Speaking at the launch, Prof Manoj Singh Gaur said cyber resilience required cooperation among technology institutions, government agencies and communities, adding that the influencer programme would help extend cyber-safety information through digital platforms used by citizens.

The initiative is intended to expand the campaign’s public outreach by using digital creators as a channel for disseminating technically reviewed information on cybersecurity and safe digital practices. [KNT]
