J&K: Movement Restrictions Imposed Along International Border for 2 months

Kathua, Feb 16, KNT: The District Magistrate Kathua has imposed restrictions on movement in border areas of the district for a period of 60 days, citing heightened security concerns and the possibility of cross-border firing.
According to an official order issued by District Magistrate Rajesh Sharma, JKAS, restrictions have been imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita to prevent danger to human life and maintain public tranquility in sensitive border zones.
The order states that unnecessary movement has been restricted in a strip of 5 kilometres from the International Border within the Area of Responsibility of the concerned unit, covering the stretch from BOP Paharpur Forward to BOP Karol Krishna.
In addition, movement of heavy vehicles, including trucks, tippers, and multi-axle vehicles, has been prohibited on the old Samba-Kathua road between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM.
The restrictions came into effect from February 14, 2026 and will remain in force for sixty days from the date of issuance unless withdrawn earlier. The order has been issued ex parte in view of the prevailing situation, with authorities stating that prior notice could not be served.
The District Magistrate has warned that any violation of the order will attract punitive action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Copies of the order have been forwarded to the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua, Commandant 107 Battalion BSF and other concerned authorities for information and necessary action. [KNT]
