BSF Foils Fifth Infiltration Attempt in a Week in J&K’s Kathua
Kathua, January 7, KNT: The Border Security Force on Wednesday claimed that it foiled an infiltration attempt along the International Border in Kathua district of Jammu division, describing it as the fifth such attempt in the past one week.
According to BSF officials, a group of militants tried to infiltrate into the Indian side during the night in the Pallia area of the Chilyari-Khora forward belt in Kathua district.
A BSF spokesperson said alert troops detected suspicious movement near the border and immediately challenged the infiltrators.
“Alert BSF personnel opened fire after noticing movement of a group of militants attempting to sneak into the Indian side,” the spokesperson said.
He added that the firing forced the militants to retreat towards the other side of the border.
Officials said the infiltration bid took place during the night when visibility was low due to dense fog, which militants often attempt to exploit while trying to cross the border.
According to the BSF spokesperson, the latest attempt was the fifth infiltration bid reported in the Kathua sector within a week.
“Militants attempted to infiltrate under the cover of firing by Pakistani troops and thick blanket of fog along the border,” the spokesperson said.
Security forces have intensified surveillance along the border belt in Jammu division following repeated attempts by militants to infiltrate into the region.
Authorities said BSF troops deployed along the forward areas remain on high alert to prevent infiltration and maintain security along the border. [KNT]
