Ganderbal, March 14, KNT: Locals of Gund tehsil in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have reported a shortage of cooking gas for the past three days, saying the situation has created difficulties for households during the ongoing holy month of Ramadan.
Locals said several families were struggling to arrange LPG cylinders as supplies remained unavailable at distribution points in the area.
The shortage has sparked concern among residents who rely on cooking gas for preparing meals during the fasting period, when demand for household fuel tends to rise.
Locals said the problem began shortly after reports circulated that the Kashmir Valley had sufficient LPG stocks for nearly two weeks and people were advised not to panic.
According to locals, the situation in Gund was normal until three days ago when the availability of cooking gas began to decline suddenly.
“Three days ago there was no shortage of cooking gas in the area, but from the next day after the announcement about gas stock, the supply began to disappear from the market,” a resident said.
Several residents said they had visited gas distribution centres multiple times but were unable to obtain cylinders due to the lack of supply.
Locals said the shortage has forced many households to search for alternative arrangements to prepare food.
A local gas dealer confirmed that he had not received fresh supplies from the distributor in recent days.
“We have not received gas supplies from the agencies yet, which has created difficulties for dealers as well,” the dealer said.
People have appealed to the administration to intervene and ensure that LPG supplies are restored as soon as possible.
Locals said timely distribution of cooking gas is essential during Ramadan when families prepare meals before dawn and after sunset. [KNT]
