Shopian, March 18, KNT: Continuing its crackdown on narcotics-related activities, Shopian Police on Wednesday seized a vehicle allegedly purchased using proceeds from the illegal drug trade, officials said.
The seized vehicle, a Swift car bearing registration number JK13J-3347, is valued at approximately ₹6.80 lakh and belongs to Ishfaq Ahmad Koka, son of Abdul Majeed Koka, a resident of Melhura Zainapora.
The action underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle financial networks linked to drug trafficking in the region.
Officials said preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle had been acquired using money generated from the sale of narcotics.
“Based on evidence gathered during investigation, the vehicle was identified as being purchased through illicit proceeds,” a police official said.
Acting on these findings, the police carried out the seizure under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in connection with FIR No. 04/2026 registered at Police Station Zainapora.
The seizure was executed following due legal procedures and in accordance with established protocols, officials said.
Police said such actions are part of a broader strategy aimed at targeting not only drug peddlers but also the assets generated through illegal activities.
A police spokesperson said, “We are committed to eliminating the drug menace and will continue to take strict action against those involved, including attachment of properties acquired through illegal means.”
Authorities have also appealed to the public to assist in the fight against narcotics by sharing information related to drug trafficking and other unlawful activities.
The district has witnessed intensified anti-narcotics operations in recent months, with police focusing on both supply chains and financial aspects of the trade.
Officials said further investigation in the case is ongoing. [KNT]
