Waheed Parra Targets Government on Security Downgrades, Eviction Notices in J&K
Jammu, March 28, KNT: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker Waheed Parra on Saturday raised concerns in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly over issues related to security cover and housing of political leaders, questioning the government’s approach in the Union Territory.
Speaking during the Assembly session in Jammu, Parra criticised what he described as selective decisions affecting opposition leaders, particularly in matters of security and official accommodation.
The remarks come amid ongoing political debate over security arrangements for leaders in J&K and recent developments involving notices and alleged downgrading of protection.
Parra referred to former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, stating that the “snatching” of her house, despite not owning a personal residence, amounted to an attempt to “murder,” and alleged that the Chief Minister had ignored her entitlement.
“Security is insurance in J&K, non-negotiable. When 90 MLAs are engaged in safeguarding the nation, security cannot be compromised,” Parra said in the House.
He also condemned the recent attack on National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, calling for adequate protection for political leaders across parties.
The PDP legislator questioned the rationale behind actions taken against certain leaders, asking why Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Lone was served a notice to vacate his accommodation and why Congress leader Tariq Qarra’s security was allegedly downgraded.
Parra said the government must explain its position on security responsibilities and ensure that there is no discrimination in providing protection to elected representatives. [KNT] You May Like to Watch:
