AIMSA, JKSA Write to EAM Jaishankar Seeking Immediate Action to Bring Back Kupwara Youth’s Remains
New Delhi, April 5, KNT: A nursing assistant from north Kashmir’s Kupwara district died in Saudi Arabia after suffering a cardiac arrest, prompting separate appeals by the All India Medical Students Association and the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association for urgent repatriation of his mortal remains.
Bilal Manzoor Ganie, son of Manzoor Ahmad Ganie and a resident of Chountiwari Sogam in Lolab, passed away on April 4 while working at Aaba International Hospital in Saudi Arabia, where he had been employed for about one and a half years, according to details shared by the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association.
The death has triggered calls for intervention by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to facilitate the return of the body to his native village for last rites.
Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan, Vice President of the All India Medical Students Association, appealed to the External Affairs Minister to ensure urgent repatriation of the mortal remains. He also urged the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to intervene and complete necessary formalities without delay, emphasizing the humanitarian need for timely action.
In a separate communication, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association said it has written to the External Affairs Minister seeking immediate intervention in the matter. Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor of the Association, expressed grief over the death and said the body should be brought back at the earliest to allow the family to perform final rites.
Khuehami said the association has requested authorities, including the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia and relevant local officials, to expedite the repatriation process. He added that the association is prepared to assist in coordination with the family, hospital authorities, and diplomatic channels to ensure the process is completed smoothly.
The association said the sudden death has caused shock across the victim’s native village and adjoining areas of Lolab, with residents describing him as a dedicated and hardworking individual.
The family has also appealed for assistance in bringing the body back to Kashmir, citing procedural requirements and coordination involved in such cases.
Both the associations expressed hope for prompt action by the Ministry of External Affairs, stating that timely intervention would provide relief and closure to the bereaved family. [KNT]
