Srinagar, April 6, KNT: The Motor Vehicles Department on Monday issued 822 challans, blacklisted 124 vehicles and recommended suspension of 196 driving licenses during a Kashmir-wide enforcement drive aimed at ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.
The action was carried out across all districts of the Kashmir Division, with checks conducted at high-traffic zones and accident-prone areas under the supervision of the Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir, and overall monitoring of the Transport Commissioner, Jammu and Kashmir.
The drive focused on violations including driving without valid license, overloading, non-use of seat belts and helmets, use of mobile phones while driving, and non-compliance with emission norms.
During the operation, a significant number of vehicles were inspected, with authorities also realizing ₹18.56 lakh as fine under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at improving road discipline and reducing the incidence of traffic accidents across the region.
The department urged motorists to follow traffic rules and cooperate with enforcement agencies to ensure safety on roads.
Further enforcement drives are planned in the coming weeks as part of ongoing efforts to promote road safety across the Kashmir Division. [KNT]
