Salman Sagar announces two ambulances, ₹20 lakh support for Srinagar’s Hazratbal hospital

Srinagar, April 15, KNT: Salman Ali Sagar on Wednesday announced the provision of two ambulances and ₹20 lakh in financial support for healthcare facilities in Hazratbal, while stating that a long-pending hospital project in the constituency is nearing revival after remaining stalled for nearly a decade.
Speaking at a meeting held at SDH Hazratbal, Sagar expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for reviving the hospital project, which he said had seen little progress over the past ten years.
He said the project has now resumed and is in its final stage, adding that formal construction work will begin once cabinet approval is granted. “This is something that should have been completed ten years ago, but we are now finally moving forward,” he said.
Addressing immediate healthcare requirements, the MLA announced that two ambulances—one for Hazratbal and another for the hospital—will be procured at an estimated cost of ₹13 lakh each.
He further said ₹20 lakh is being released to meet urgent needs, including installation of digital X-ray facilities and provision of power backup through generators. The funds, he said, will be utilized by the concerned health authorities, including the Chief Medical Officer and Block Medical Officer, based on priority requirements.
Highlighting existing challenges, Sagar acknowledged a shortage of doctors and paramedical staff in the area, attributing the issue largely to inadequate infrastructure. He said proper staffing would be ensured once the hospital building is completed.
He also expressed confidence that the Chief Minister and the Health Minister will visit the hospital soon to review progress and lay the foundation for additional works required to strengthen healthcare services in the constituency.
“Though delayed, the project is now on track, and we expect significant progress within this year,” he added. KNT]
