Baramulla, April 25, KNT: Serious concerns have been raised over sanitation conditions at the hostel of Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, with students reporting garbage accumulation, sewage overflow, and an unhygienic living environment within the premises.
According to students, deteriorating sanitation has led to foul smell, discomfort, and growing concerns over health and hygiene. They said stagnant sewage water and heaps of waste in and around the hostel area have created difficult living conditions for residents.
Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, Vice President of the All India Medical Students Association, said multiple students approached the association highlighting the situation.
He said medical students, already under academic pressure and long study schedules, should not be forced to live in such conditions and stressed that a clean and safe hostel environment is essential for their well-being and academic focus.
Dr Khan warned that prolonged neglect of sanitation management could expose students to infections and other health risks, adding that institutions, especially medical colleges, must maintain strict hygiene standards.
Calling for immediate action, he urged the concerned authorities and GMC Baramulla administration to clear accumulated garbage, repair the sewage system, and ensure regular sanitation measures.
He also sought a monitoring mechanism to prevent recurrence of such issues and ensure that students can live in a safe and dignified environment.
Students residing in the hostel have appealed for swift intervention and early resolution of the issue. [KNT]
