Anantnag, April 27, KNT: The Drugs and Food Control Organization in Anantnag on Monday suspended the operations of six medical shops following surprise inspections across multiple locations, officials said.

Inspection teams conducted raids in Botengoo in Anantnag and Jablipora and Arwani areas of Bijbehara, where several establishments were found violating mandatory norms, particularly failure to maintain proper records of drug sale and purchase as required under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

Officials said six medical stores were immediately shut after violations were detected. The establishments include Healthcare Medical Store in Batengoo, R.I Pharmacy in Jablipora, and four outlets in Arwani—War Alshifa Medical Store, Shining Medical Store, Alshifa Medical Store, and Healthcare Medical Store.

Authorities said the action is part of an intensified enforcement drive aimed at ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical regulations and safeguarding public health.

Officials added that inspections will continue across the district and warned that strict legal action will be taken against any medical establishment found violating norms.

They emphasized that ensuring availability of quality medicines remains a core responsibility of the department, noting that the general public may not be in a position to assess drug quality independently. [KNT]
