Srinagar, April 29, KNT: A government employee posted in the Judiciary Department was arrested in Srinagar after police recovered a heroin-like substance, cash, and a vehicle during naka checking in Alochibagh area.

The arrest was made during routine checking as part of intensified anti-narcotics operations aimed at dismantling drug networks operating in the city.

Sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that approximately 8 grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered from the possession of the accused along with ₹39,000 in cash. A vehicle bearing registration number JK21K-3042 (XUV 700) was also seized during the operation.

The accused has been identified as Arun Kumar, son of Sudesh Kumar, a resident of Toppoular Janipura Jammu. He is working as a Junior Assistant in the Judiciary Department and is presently posted at the Lower Court Srinagar.

A police team from Shergari Police Station led by Station House Officer Ishaq Ahmad carried out the naka checking during which the accused was intercepted and searched.

Sources said the cash recovered from his possession is suspected to have been generated through the sale of narcotic substances, indicating alleged involvement in drug peddling.

The development comes amid growing concern within enforcement agencies that the drug menace is not confined to youth alone, but is also affecting individuals in government services.

Police have registered FIR No. 22/2026 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Shergari, and further investigation is underway.

Officials said intensified checking and targeted operations will continue to curb the spread of narcotics and dismantle drug networks. [KNT]
