Nursing Staff Write to LG Alleging Abuse by Jammu West MLA Inside GMC Emergency Ward

Jammu, May 17, KNT: Nursing staff at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu have submitted a formal representation to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha alleging abusive language, threatening conduct, and public humiliation by Jammu West MLA Arvind Gupta during a visit to the hospital’s Emergency Ward earlier this week.
The representation, dated May 15, 2026, was addressed to the Lieutenant Governor through official channels and refers to an incident that allegedly took place on May 14. The complaint claims the MLA used disrespectful language and behaved aggressively toward hospital staff despite a patient already having been attended to by doctors and nurses on duty.
According to the representation, the nursing staff said the patient seen in the circulated video had already received necessary medical attention before the MLA arrived. The complaint alleges that when a nursing staff member greeted the MLA respectfully with “Good Morning,” the MLA allegedly responded with abusive remarks in the presence of senior officers, attendants, patients, and hospital staff.
The representation further claims that the interaction was recorded by individuals accompanying the MLA and later uploaded on social media platforms, which the complainants say damaged the morale and dignity of healthcare workers.
The staff also alleged that threatening remarks were made while pointing toward chairs placed near the Nursing Station. The representation states that the language and conduct displayed inside the hospital premises created fear, humiliation, and mental harassment among employees.
In the complaint, the nursing fraternity highlighted its role during the COVID-19 pandemic, cloudburst-related emergencies in Chishti, Operation Sindoor, and other crisis situations, saying healthcare workers continued to serve under difficult conditions with dedication and professionalism.
The representation further stated that the nursing staff are qualified professionals appointed through recognized procedures and competitive examinations, and alleged that certain remarks made during the incident were “highly inappropriate and distasteful.”
The complainants also raised concern over photography and videography allegedly being carried out inside the Emergency Section despite restrictions, claiming the hospital follows a zero-tolerance policy against misconduct and disruption within patient-care areas.
Seeking intervention, the nursing staff requested immediate removal of the circulated videos from social media platforms and demanded appropriate action in the matter to safeguard the dignity and working environment of healthcare professionals.
There was no immediate response available from MLA Arvind Gupta regarding the allegations mentioned in the representation. [KNT]
