Srinagar, May 18, KNT: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar against a retired officer of the Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) in an alleged service record manipulation case involving fraudulent alteration of date of birth.

The chargesheet was submitted in FIR No. 09/2015 registered under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) against the then Incharge Superintendent Engineer of the corporation, officials said.

According to the Crime Branch, the case was registered after receipt of a written complaint alleging that the officer had manipulated his date of birth in official service records to secure undue service benefits.

Officials said a detailed investigation was initiated by Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir, presently known as Economic Offences Wing Kashmir.

During investigation, the agency found that the accused had allegedly altered his date of birth in official records from October 28, 1955 to October 28, 1958 with the intention of extending service-related benefits.

The investigation further revealed that the alleged manipulation was scientifically verified through reports obtained from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) Srinagar and the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE), officials said.

Crime Branch officials stated that the accused also destroyed his original service book in an attempt to conceal evidence connected with the alleged fraud, following which Section 201 RPC relating to destruction of evidence was invoked in the case.

The investigating agency said the allegations were established during the course of investigation and the chargesheet has now been placed before the competent court for judicial determination.

The matter will now be examined by the court in accordance with law. [KNT]
