Bandipora, Aug 1, KNT: National Conference senior leader and Minister for Higher Education Muhammad Akbar Lone Friday launched a sharp attack on Member Parliament Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, accusing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of pursuing politics based on “falsehood” and alleging that the party lacked public support in Sonawari constituency.
Lone was reacting to remarks attributed to Beigh in which the Parliamentarian had accused the National Conference of stooping to a low level and using “worst tricks” against political rivals.
Rejecting the allegations, Lone said repeated claims and accusations would not alter facts.
“Politics of PDP is based on lies and lies will never become truth even if spoken unlimited times,” Lone said.
He alleged that PDP supporters in Sonawari constituency were frequently involved in creating trouble and disturbing law and order.
“If you do not believe, go and ask locals how PDP workers assaulted a Sarpanch and two Public Health Engineering drivers when they were supplying water to people at Gund Jahangir Sumbal,” Lone said.
He further said that if Beigh believed he could still influence the people of Sonawari through “hollow slogans and emotive issues,” he was “living in a fool’s paradise.”
According to Lone, the people of the constituency were capable of understanding political tactics and would themselves judge the truth.
Describing Beigh’s statement as “absurd and foolish,” the National Conference leader claimed that PDP lacked a political base in Sonawari and was relying on intimidation to silence National Conference supporters.
“People of Kashmir are well aware about the disreputable politics of PDP and I think the party should stop befooling people any longer,” Lone claimed.
He alleged that PDP had achieved little except alienation among people due to what he described as its “dual nature.”
Meanwhile, locals from Sonawari constituency alleged that supporters of PDP attacked Sarpanch Block Hajin and two Public Health Engineering department drivers while they were engaged in supplying water at Gund Jahangir Sumbal area in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
A local resident, Muhammad Ashraf, alleged that some PDP supporters acting on the directions of a local leader assaulted the two PHE drivers — Abdul Hamid and Ghulam Muhammad — and also attacked Sarpanch Block Hajin Noor Muhammad Bhat.
“They injured the Sarpanch critically,” Ashraf alleged, adding that attacks on National Conference supporters had become frequent in the constituency.
Efforts to obtain the PDP version could not be immediately confirmed.
The exchange of allegations has added to the growing political confrontation between National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party in Sonawari constituency ahead of the evolving political landscape in the region. [KNT]
