Prosecution Sought Against Duo in Shopian Over Allegedly Misbranded Pesticides

Shopian, June 19, KNT: The Law Enforcement Wing in South Kashmir’s Shopian has sought prosecution against two persons for allegedly stocking and distributing misbranded pesticides in the district, officials said.

According to the news agency Kashmir News Trust the Law Enforcement Inspector, Shopian, has recommended institution of prosecution before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shopian, under provisions of the Insecticides Act, 1968 and the Insecticides Rules, 1971.

The action pertains to the alleged sale and distribution of a fungicide identified as SUPER M 45 (Mancozeb 75% WP), Batch No. SP-1902, which authorities have classified as a misbranded pesticide under Section 3(k)(iv) of the Insecticides Act.

The accused have been identified as Samiul Rehman Nangroo, proprietor of Nangroo Pesticides at Kachdoora, Shopian, and Gowhar Ahmad Dar, stated to be the responsible person of MQW Nutricitals Pvt Ltd, Chawan, Shopian.

Official records indicate that enforcement authorities seized 168 kilograms of the pesticide from one accused and 70 kilograms from the other, taking the total quantity seized to 238 kilograms.

The Law Enforcement Wing has sought sanction for prosecution, stating that the accused allegedly contravened provisions of the Insecticides Act and Rules governing the stocking, sale and distribution of pesticides.

The matter is expected to be placed before the competent court after the required approval process is completed.  [KNT]
