Udhampur, June 25, KNT: During the visit of Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary to the Majalta area of Udhampur district,  Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers staged a protest by waving party flags and raising slogans as his official convoy passed through the area.

The protest coincided with the Deputy Chief Minister’s visit to inspect developmental works and review ongoing projects in the constituency.

Following the incident, BJP MLA from Udhampur East, R.S. Pathania, alleged that established government protocol had been violated by excluding the local legislator from the official programme and the inspection of development works.

Pathania described the omission as a breach of legislative privilege and questioned the decision to conduct an official government programme without informing or associating the elected representative of the constituency.

The BJP legislator said he has submitted a formal complaint to the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, seeking action over what he termed a violation of established parliamentary and administrative conventions.

He maintained that elected representatives have a legitimate role in official developmental programmes within their constituencies and said bypassing the local MLA undermines democratic institutions. [KNT]
