Drass, June 25, KNT: The search operation to trace three persons missing after a car plunged into the Drass River near Marpoochoo in Drass district entered its second day on Thursday, with rescue teams continuing intensive searches despite difficult terrain and strong river currents.

The accident occurred late Tuesday night when a vehicle carrying four persons skidded off the road and fell into the river.

One occupant, identified as Agha Syed Baqir, son of Syed Muslim and a resident of Lankerchay, was found dead during the initial phase of the rescue operation.

The three remaining occupants—Sajad Hussain, son of Haji Abbas of Lankerchay, Hasina Banoo, daughter of Mehmood Hussain of Gato Lankerchay, and Sogra Banoo, daughter of Mohammad Ali of Gato Lankerchay—remain untraced.

A massive search operation is underway with personnel of Drass Police working under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Drass, assisted by teams of the Union Territory Disaster Response Force (UTDRF), the Station House Officer, Drass, and local volunteers.

Rescue teams are conducting extensive searches along the river course and adjoining areas in an effort to locate the missing occupants.

Officials said the operation is being carried out under challenging conditions due to the fast-flowing river and difficult mountainous terrain, but efforts to trace the missing persons are continuing. [KNT]
