Srinagar, June 27, KNT: With the annual Amarnath Yatra set to commence, Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched an extensive multi-layered security plan under “Project Hawk Eye”, deploying advanced surveillance technology and specialised security units to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
As part of the initiative, police have deployed drones for aerial monitoring, expanded CCTV surveillance, installed facial recognition systems at strategic locations and positioned sniper teams along vulnerable stretches of the yatra routes to strengthen the overall security grid.
A top police official told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the technology-driven surveillance system is aimed at enabling real-time monitoring of pilgrim movement, identifying suspicious activity and ensuring swift response to any emerging security threat.
In preparation for the pilgrimage, security forces also carried out a series of mock drills at various locations across Jammu and Kashmir to assess operational readiness and improve coordination among different agencies responsible for the security and management of the yatra.
The exercises focused on emergency response, evacuation procedures, anti-sabotage measures, crowd management and coordinated action in the event of any security or disaster-related contingency.
The police official said elaborate security arrangements have been put in place to facilitate the annual pilgrimage, with personnel from multiple security agencies working in close coordination to provide a secure environment for devotees.
The Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to begin in the coming days under heightened security arrangements, with authorities expressing confidence in the preparedness of the security apparatus. [KNT]
