Budgam, March 17, KNT: Residents of the Kanidajan area in Charar-e-Sharif in central Kashmir’s Budgam district have alleged a complete disruption in LPG supply, saying households are facing severe hardship due to the unavailability of cooking gas.

Locals said there has been “zero supply” of LPG cylinders in the area for several days, forcing families to struggle with daily cooking needs.

The issue assumes significance as authorities have recently maintained that there is sufficient fuel stock available in the region.

Villagers alleged that the local distributor, Alamdar Bharat Gas Agency, has been refusing to provide cylinders, citing lack of supply from upstream sources.

About Current Fuel Shortage
The ongoing conflict in West Asia has raised concerns over global energy supply chains, including LPG distribution. A significant portion of the world’s oil and gas shipments pass through the Strait of Hormuz, and any disruption in the region can impact fuel availability and logistics. While India maintains adequate domestic LPG stocks, international tensions can indirectly affect transportation, pricing and supply timelines. In regions like Jammu and Kashmir, where fuel supply depends on long-distance transport and distribution networks, even minor disruptions can lead to local shortages, highlighting the vulnerability of essential services to global geopolitical developments

“There is absolutely no gas available. We have been repeatedly visiting the agency but are told that no supply has been received,” a local resident said.

The shortage has affected a large number of households in the area, with people reporting that they are being forced to resort to alternative and less convenient means of cooking.

“We appeal to the government to look into the matter and provide relief. People are suffering due to non-availability of basic fuel,” another resident said.

Earlier, Minister Satish Sharma had stated that there was adequate fuel stock available, but locals said the situation on the ground reflects otherwise. [KNT]
