Jammu, May 5, KNT: A demolition drive along the Ring Road in Jammu witnessed a confrontation on Tuesday after BJP MLA Rajeev Kumar questioned officials over the action and raised allegations of irregularities in earlier building permissions.
During the drive, Rajeev Kumar, who represents the Bishnah (SC) constituency, stopped the demolition activity and confronted Tehsildar JDA Megha Gupta at the site, asking how the structures were allowed to come up and why action was being initiated now.
The MLA warned officials against proceeding with demolitions and said accountability must be fixed for those who permitted construction in the first place.
He further alleged corruption in the approval of buildings, stating that he was aware of who had taken money when the structures were raised.
Officials present at the site responded to the allegations, with the Tehsildar asking the MLA to specify who had allegedly taken bribes, according to people present.
Supporters of the MLA gathered at the site and raised slogans, cheering as the legislator intervened in the demolition drive, leading to its stoppage.
Rajeev Kumar is a Bharatiya Janata Party leader who was elected as MLA from the Bishnah constituency in the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. [KNT]
