Smoking in Public Places Banned; Sales Near Schools Prohibited

Ganderbal, Feb 27, KNT: The Executive Magistrate 1st Class, Kangan, has issued a public order directing strict enforcement of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 within the jurisdiction.

The order imposes a complete ban on smoking in public places, including government offices, educational institutions, hospitals, markets, transport stands and other areas accessible to the public. Authorities have been directed to ensure display of mandatory “No Smoking” signage.

It also reiterates prohibition on sale of tobacco products to minors and bans sale within 100 metres of educational institutions. Vendors operating in restricted zones have been asked to cease such sales immediately.

The order warns of penal action under relevant provisions of COTPA for any violations and directs enforcement agencies to ensure full compliance. [KNT]
