Kolkata, Mar 1, KNT: India completed the joint third-highest run chase in T20 World Cup history as they defeated West Indies by five wickets in their Super Eights fixture at the Eden Gardens on Sunday to storm into the semifinals.
Chasing a challenging 196, India rode on a magnificent unbeaten 97 from Sanju Samson, who anchored the innings with composure and calculated aggression. His knock came off just 50 deliveries and proved decisive in a high-pressure contest.
West Indies, opting to bat first, posted a competitive 195 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs, building momentum through the middle phase. However, India maintained control of the chase despite losing wickets at intervals, reaching the target in 19.2 overs.
The win not only sealed India’s semifinal berth but also underlined their batting depth and ability to handle big chases in global tournaments. With momentum firmly on their side, the Men in Blue now look ahead to the knockout stage with confidence.
