Kishtwar, July 2, KNT: Fresh landslides triggered by heavy rainfall and a cloudburst forced the closure of the strategic Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road on Thursday, disrupting traffic between the Chenab Valley and south Kashmir.

Officials said continuous rain loosened the hill slopes at multiple locations, resulting in landslides that blocked the highway and rendered it unsafe for vehicular movement. Traffic on the route has been suspended until the debris is cleared and the road is declared fit for travel.

The latest disruption comes amid a series of weather-related incidents reported across Jammu and Kashmir over the past two days, with cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides affecting several districts and damaging roads and public infrastructure.

Authorities have advised commuters, tourists and transporters to postpone travel on the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road and follow official advisories regarding its reopening.

Road restoration agencies are expected to begin clearance operations once weather conditions improve and the affected stretches are assessed for safety. [KNT]
