Crime Branch Files Chargesheet Against Two Bandipora Men in Alleged Service Record Fraud Case

Srinagar, June 7, KNT: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has filed a chargesheet before the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Sumbal, against two residents of Bandipora in connection with an alleged case of cheating and forgery aimed at securing unlawful service benefits.
The chargesheet has been filed in FIR No. 05/2026 registered under Sections 420, 468 and 471 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
The accused have been identified as Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, son of Mohammad Jawad Bhat, and Assadullah Bhat, son of Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Rakhi Shilwat, Sumbal in Bandipora district.
According to the Crime Branch, the investigation revealed that the accused allegedly concealed their educational qualifications and falsely projected themselves as illiterate to obtain altered dates of birth through fraudulent certificates.
Investigators found that the alleged manipulation resulted in incorrect entries in official service records, which subsequently enabled the accused to continue in service beyond their legitimate tenure.
The probe further concluded that the accused derived undue financial benefits through the alleged fraudulent acts, causing a loss to the State exchequer.
Following completion of the investigation, the Economic Offences Wing submitted the chargesheet before the competent court for judicial proceedings.
Officials said the case pertains to alleged irregularities in service-related records and the misuse of forged documents to secure benefits not legally admissible.
The court is expected to examine the chargesheet and proceed further in accordance with law. [KNT]
