New Delhi, May 13, KNT: The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) on Wednesday termed the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination “absolutely shameful,” after the Centre scrapped the country’s biggest undergraduate medical entrance test amid allegations of a paper leak and examination irregularities.

Reacting to the development, Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan of FAIMA said honest students were being forced to suffer because of alleged paper leak networks operating around competitive examinations.

“Absolutely shameful. NEET 2026 again under controversy. Honest students study for years, while paper leak mafias play with their future,” Khan wrote on X.

The Centre cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3 and announced that the test would be reconducted on dates to be notified separately.

The government has also referred the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a comprehensive probe into allegations linked to the examination process.

In a statement, the National Testing Agency (NTA) said the decision was taken after findings shared by law enforcement agencies raised concerns over the integrity of the examination.

The cancellation has triggered anxiety and uncertainty among lakhs of medical aspirants across India, many of whom had prepared for years for the highly competitive examination.

Student protests were also reported after the announcement. Workers of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) staged demonstrations against the central government near Shastri Bhavan, where protesters were seen climbing barricades during the protest.

The controversy has once again brought the functioning of the NTA under scrutiny, with demands growing for stronger safeguards against examination leaks and stricter accountability in national-level entrance tests. [KNT]
