
New Delhi, April 22, KNT: Leaders across the political spectrum, led by the President and the Prime Minister, paid tributes on Tuesday to the victims of the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam attack, marking its first anniversary with messages of remembrance, solidarity, and resolve against violence.
President Droupadi Murmu said the loss of innocent lives in the attack remains etched in the nation’s collective memory and expressed deepest condolences to the bereaved families. She said the country stands united with the victims’ families and reaffirmed India’s commitment to peace, unity, and defeating terrorism in all its forms.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the victims “will never be forgotten,” describing the attack as a tragedy that continues to weigh on the nation’s conscience. He said India stands united in grief and resolve and will never bow to any form of terror.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid tribute, recalling the pain endured by families and stating that India’s response to terrorism remains firm, decisive, and unwavering.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the nation will never forget the victims or forgive those responsible, adding that the grief of affected families continues to resonate across the country.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh described April 22 as a day of “great pain,” recalling the attack and raising questions over security lapses while expressing solidarity with the victims’ families.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the region remains united against terror and committed to ensuring that such incidents do not recur, while expressing solidarity with the families of those killed.
BJP MP Jugal Kishore Sharma termed the victims “martyrs” and said the nation continues to remember them with respect, attributing the attack to cross-border terrorism.
International voices also joined in remembrance, with the French Embassy in India and the European Union expressing solidarity with India and reaffirming their commitment to the global fight against terrorism.
The tributes come on the first anniversary of the attack in Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, where 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed in one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in recent years.
The incident had triggered nationwide outrage and led to heightened security measures across Jammu and Kashmir’s tourist zones. [KNT]
