Iran has launched a new mechanism for regulating maritime traffic through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, introducing mandatory procedures for vessels seeking passage through one of the world’s most critical energy shipping routes.
According to details, all vessels intending to transit the Strait will now receive operational guidelines and regulatory instructions through the official email address.
Under the newly implemented framework, ships will be required to comply with the stated regulations and obtain transit permission before entering or crossing the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian authorities have described the initiative as a “sovereign governance system” aimed at managing navigation and security in the sensitive maritime corridor.
The Strait of Hormuz is regarded as one of the world’s most important oil transit chokepoints, with nearly one-fifth of globally traded oil shipments passing through the narrow waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to international markets.
The development comes amid heightened regional tensions following the escalation of hostilities involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
Iranian media reports claimed that the country’s armed forces have intensified control measures in the Strait and blocked ships allegedly linked to the United States and Israel following what Tehran described as a “war of aggression” launched against the Islamic Republic on February 28.
There was no immediate independent international confirmation regarding claims of ship blockades or enforcement measures targeting specific vessels.
The move is expected to draw close international attention due to the Strait’s strategic importance to global oil supplies, shipping security and regional stability. Analysts have previously warned that any disruption in Hormuz traffic could impact international energy markets and maritime trade routes. [KNT]
