Jammu, April 21, KNT: The Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Tuesday demolished a shopping complex identified as ‘Tawi Towers Amelia’ in Trikuta Nagar area of Jammu, citing encroachment and building violations.
Officials said the structure, owned by Vikas Gupta, son of Kuldeep Gupta, had been constructed without obtaining the required permissions.
According to a JMC official, the ground floor of the mall housed more than eight shops, which had already been sealed by the corporation prior to the demolition.
On Tuesday, demolition squads, assisted by bulldozers and manpower, razed the structure as part of enforcement action against unauthorized constructions.
Authorities said the action was taken following established procedures against violations, though no detailed timeline of approvals or notices was immediately shared.
The demolition has drawn criticism in recent days, with some alleging that authorities had earlier allowed such structures to come up before initiating action.
Critics have also raised concerns over what they describe as selective targeting in enforcement drives.
The JMC has intensified its action against unauthorized constructions in Jammu, with officials reiterating that structures raised without proper approvals will face strict action. [KNT]
