Srinagar, April 27, KNT: Kashmir Seva Sangh, which runs the Kashmir School Federation, has defended Siraj-ul-Uloom Shopian following its declaration as an unlawful entity, saying no adverse findings were reported during its verification process.

Kashmir Seva Sangh chief Firdous Baba told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that it took nearly a year to verify the institution before granting it affiliation, adding that the school was found to be compliant with rules and functioning within the framework of law.

“We do not affiliate institutions against whom FIRs are registered or those having links with anti-national elements. During our verification, nothing adverse was found,” he said.

Baba said the institution should not be portrayed as a religious seminary, describing it instead as an educational hub. He added that the school had also participated in activities such as Tiranga rallies.

He asserted that the organization works for the integrity of the country and reiterated that no links with banned Jamaat-e-Islami were found during their assessment.

Appealing to the government to reconsider the decision, he said more than 1,000 individuals, including students and staff, are associated with the institution and could be affected by the action.

The statement comes amid continuing reactions to the administration’s move to ban the Shopian-based institution under UAPA, citing alleged links and irregularities. [KNT]
