Jammu, May 26, KNT: Police in Jammu on Tuesday seized more than one quintal of paneer and called officials from the Food Safety Department to collect samples for laboratory examination, officials said.
An official said the paneer consignment was intercepted in the Bus Stand area following which food safety authorities were informed for necessary testing and verification.
The official said the seized paneer had arrived from Gurdaspur in Punjab and was accompanied by proper billing and related documentation.
“We have collected samples and once the report comes, action will be initiated,” the official said.
Authorities said the Food Safety Department collected samples from the consignment to ascertain quality and determine whether the product conforms to prescribed food safety standards.
Officials clarified that no conclusion regarding the quality or fitness of the paneer could be drawn until laboratory analysis is completed.
Further action, they said, would depend on the outcome of the test reports. [KNT]
