Northern Railway Runs Special Train Between Srinagar and Katra for Stranded Passengers

Jammu, July 24, KNT: Northern Railway on Friday operated a special train between Srinagar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to facilitate the movement of passengers stranded due to the continued closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

The highway has remained shut following heavy rainfall, landslides and shooting stones at multiple vulnerable locations, disrupting road connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region.

Railway officials said the special train evacuated more than 600 passengers who had been affected by the suspension of vehicular traffic on the national highway.

The special service was introduced as an emergency measure to ensure safe transportation of stranded travellers and reduce inconvenience caused by the prolonged highway closure.

Authorities said the rail service provided much-needed relief to passengers awaiting an opportunity to travel out of the Valley, while restoration work on the highway continues at affected stretches.

Officials have advised travelers to monitor the latest traffic and railway advisories before planning their journey, as weather conditions continue to influence transportation across the region. [KNT]
