Leh, June 6, KNT: Ladakh recorded 72,834 tourist arrivals in May 2026, registering a remarkable 121.20 percent increase compared to 32,927 visitors during the same month last year, according to Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr.) B.D. Mishra.
Sharing the figures, the Lieutenant Governor said May 2026 emerged as a landmark month for the Union Territory’s tourism sector, reflecting growing interest among travelers and the success of efforts aimed at promoting Ladakh as a premier destination.
The LG said that between January and May this year, Ladakh welcomed 1,17,546 tourists compared to 81,827 during the corresponding period in 2025, representing a year-on-year growth of 43.65 percent.
He attributed the surge to sustained initiatives focused on strengthening tourism infrastructure, improving connectivity and diversifying tourism experiences across the region.
The Lieutenant Governor also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to promote domestic tourism for contributing to the increase in visitor numbers.
“The surge has brought renewed optimism and confidence among tourism stakeholders,” he said.
Thanking visitors for choosing Ladakh, the LG invited people from across the country to experience the region’s unique blend of natural beauty, adventure tourism, culture, spirituality and serene environment.
Tourism remains one of Ladakh’s key economic sectors and the latest figures indicate a strong revival and continued growth in visitor arrivals across the Union Territory. [KNT]
