Anantnag, Aug 21, KNT: Anantnag Police have executed a warrant under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT-NDPS) against an alleged repeat drug offender from Bijbehara, as part of action against persons accused of involvement in the illegal narcotics trade.

The warrant was issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, against Mohammad Ashraf Ganie, a resident of Waghama Bijbehara.

Following execution of the warrant, the accused was detained and lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah.

Police described Ganie as a “notorious drug offender” and said the preventive action was taken under the PIT-NDPS framework.

The law provides for preventive detention of persons considered to be involved in illicit traffic in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, with the objective of preventing their continued involvement in such activities.

The latest action is part of the police crackdown on the illegal drug trade in Anantnag district, with authorities increasingly resorting to preventive measures against alleged repeat offenders. [KNT]
