Sham, May 11, KNT: The newly established Sham district on Monday organized a joint public outreach programme with the civil administration and police authorities to strengthen community relations and address public concerns at the grassroots level.

Officials said the programme was aimed at creating direct interaction between the administration and the public while identifying key civic, developmental, and law-and-order issues confronting different areas of the district.

During the interaction, senior officers engaged directly with representatives of several organizations and community groups, including Ladakh Buddhist Association, Bharatiya Janata Party representatives, Women Alliance members, LAS representatives, religious groups, and village Lambardars.

Participants raised issues concerning civic amenities, developmental requirements, infrastructure, and public welfare measures needed in various villages and localities of the newly created district.

Officials assured participants that the administration was committed to ensuring that governance and developmental initiatives effectively reach all remote and underserved areas.

The Deputy Commissioner during the programme said extensive tours of villages across the district would be conducted in the coming days to assess local requirements and ensure implementation of development works on the ground.

He assured the public that the administration would remain accessible and responsive to public grievances and developmental demands.

Meanwhile, the Senior Superintendent of Police Sham highlighted the department’s commitment towards maintaining what he described as a “people-friendly policing system.”

He said police officials would remain available round the clock to address public safety concerns and strengthen coordination with local communities.

The SSP also assured the gathering that he would personally visit villages across the district to better understand local issues and improve police-public relations.

Participants at the outreach programme welcomed the initiative and described direct interaction with officers as important for addressing public grievances and improving administrative outreach.

Several local leaders expressed gratitude to the Union Territory administration for the creation of Sham district, terming it a significant step toward improving administrative accessibility and accelerating regional development.

They particularly thanked the Jammu and Kashmir Police leadership, the Chief Secretary, and the office of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for the move.

The outreach programme is part of broader efforts by the administration to establish institutional coordination and public engagement mechanisms in the newly formed district. [KNT]
