Srinagar, May 7, KNT: Police have written to the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Srinagar seeking cancellation of driving licenses of three accused persons allegedly involved in separate narcotics cases registered in Srinagar, officials said on Thursday.
The recommendation was made in connection with cases registered under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at different police stations in the city.
Officials identified one of the accused as Mir Arsalan of Dargah near Rainawari-Romigate area, who is allegedly involved in FIR No. 40/2025 registered under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Nowhata.
Another accused has been identified as Kounsar Mehdi, son of Mohammad Ayoub Tali, a resident of Mirakshah Colony, who is allegedly involved in FIR No. 17/2025 registered under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Zakoora.
The third accused was identified as Waseem Manzoor Karnaie, son of Manzoor Ahmad Karnaie, a resident of Saderbal, who is also allegedly involved in FIR No. 40/2025 registered under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Nowhata.
Officials said police have formally approached the RTO Srinagar requesting cancellation of the driving licenses of the accused as part of ongoing measures aimed at tightening action against individuals allegedly involved in drug-related activities.
The move comes amid intensified anti-narcotics operations across Kashmir, where police have increasingly adopted preventive and punitive measures targeting suspected drug peddlers and consumers.
Authorities have repeatedly stated that action against narcotics networks would include legal proceedings, property attachment, preventive detention, and other administrative measures permitted under law.
Further proceedings in the matter are expected after scrutiny by the transport authorities. [KNT]
