Doda, March 10, KNT: Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia on Tuesday met the family of incarcerated Doda MLA Mehraj Malik and alleged that voices raising issues of justice and public welfare were being suppressed in the country.

Speaking to reporters after meeting the family, Sisodia said several leaders who speak on public issues were facing legal action.

He said individuals including Sonam Wangchuk, Sanjay Singh, Satyendra Jain, Mehraj Malik and Arvind Kejriwal had raised concerns on matters related to governance and public welfare.

“Sane voices are being repressed. People who raise their voices for justice and truth are being jailed,” Sisodia said while addressing reporters.

He said Mehraj Malik had been imprisoned for raising demands related to public welfare, including better schools and hospitals.

“This is a fight against dictatorship and we have to fight it,” Sisodia said.

He expressed confidence that the Doda legislator would eventually be released and that the allegations against him would not stand.

“Mehraj Malik will come out free with dignity and all the allegations against him will prove false,” he said.

Sisodia also criticised the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the country was witnessing difficult times because of policy decisions taken by the central government.

Mehraj Malik, an Aam Aadmi Party legislator from Doda, is currently in custody in connection with a case registered against him by authorities. [KNT]
