A security guard was injured after shots were fired outside the coaching institute of popular educator Khan Sir in Bihar’s capital Patna, triggering panic among students and prompting a large-scale police response.

The incident occurred near Musallahpur Haat, one of Patna’s largest coaching hubs, where hundreds of students later gathered outside the institute demanding action and stronger security measures.

According to police, the injured security guard was shifted to hospital for treatment while senior officers, including the Patna Senior Superintendent of Police and Superintendent of Police, rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the area is being examined and statements of witnesses are being recorded.

Khan Sir alleged that the attackers vandalized the institute premises before opening fire and claimed the incident could be linked to rivalry within the coaching industry. He said CCTV footage had been handed over to investigators and sought enhanced security for the institution.

However, police presented a somewhat different version, describing the episode primarily as a case of physical assault and stating that the investigation would establish the exact sequence of events. Authorities have not officially confirmed allegations regarding the motive or involvement of any rival institution.

The incident sparked outrage among students, many of whom assembled outside the coaching centre as heavy police deployment was made in the area to maintain order.

The attack has once again drawn attention to intense competition within Patna’s coaching sector, where thousands of students enroll annually for competitive examination preparation. [KNT]
