Sinha Calls for Jobs, Women’s Empowerment, Transparency in Governance on Independence Day

Srinagar, Aug 15, KNT: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday called for greater focus on employment generation, women’s economic empowerment, environmental sustainability and accountable governance while addressing the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the 80th Independence Day.
Sinha hoisted the National Flag at Lok Bhavan, where a ceremonial police contingent presented the National Salute.
Paying tribute to freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives during India’s struggle for independence, the Lieutenant Governor also remembered civilians who lost their lives in natural calamities during the year.
Sinha said the most meaningful tribute to those who fought for India’s freedom would be to work with integrity and protect the freedom achieved through their sacrifices.
Looking ahead, he called for a more inclusive society that places public interest at the centre of governance and extends greater support to underprivileged sections.
The Lieutenant Governor stressed the need for balanced growth, women’s economic empowerment, employment opportunities for young people and greater attention to environmental sustainability.
He pointed to initiatives involving the restoration of heritage sites and ancient monuments as well as large-scale afforestation as part of the administration’s stated focus on sustainable development.
Sinha also called for greater participation of citizens in the effort to build a self-reliant Jammu and Kashmir and contribute to the vision of a developed India by 2047.
Emphasising transparency and accountability, he said these principles were essential to governance and urged citizens to contribute to nation-building.
The Lieutenant Governor congratulated J&K Police and Central Armed Police Forces personnel who received gallantry medals on the eve of Independence Day and commended sportspersons for their achievements and contribution to Jammu and Kashmir’s standing.
He called upon people to renew their commitment to public service and nation-building with greater sincerity and dedication. [KNT]
