Swift Rescue Averts Tragedy as Two Girls Swept Away in J&K’s Poonch Saved

Poonch, June 21, KNT: A potentially tragic incident was averted in Surankote area of Poonch district on Sunday after two girls who were swept away by the currents of the Suran River were rescued alive by a joint effort of police personnel, local residents and a health team.

Officials said the girls were carried away by the river before being spotted and rescued a short distance downstream. The swift and coordinated response by rescuers ensured both were brought to safety and shifted to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Surankote for treatment.

The rescued girls have been identified as Ifra Kouser, daughter of Tariq, and Samina Akhter, daughter of Lal Hussain, both residents of Chandimarh.

Block Medical Officer Surankote, Dr. Muhammad Yousaf Choudhary, confirmed the incident and said both girls were stable.

The incident triggered concern among people, while the successful rescue operation drew appreciation from locals who credited the prompt response of police, health officials and volunteers for saving the lives of the two girls. [KNT]
