Srinagar, April 9, KNT: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has disclosed that more than 83,000 domicile certificates were issued to non-state subjects in the Union Territory over the past two years.

The information was provided by the Revenue Department in an official reply to a question raised by Pulwama MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para in the Assembly.

The data assumes significance as domicile certificates determine eligibility for jobs, land rights and other benefits in the Union Territory.

According to the government’s reply, a total of 35,12,184 domicile certificates were issued across Jammu and Kashmir during the last two years.

Out of these, 83,742 certificates were issued to non-state subjects.

The reply was tabled in the Assembly as part of the official response to the legislator’s query seeking details of domicile certificates issued to non-local applicants.

The figures reflect the overall scale of domicile issuance following changes in domicile rules in the Union Territory.
